Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Saperion one product or an integration of multiple products?

Saperion is unique with its ALL-IN-ONE architecture. All core technology for Imaging, Document Management, Storage Management (including optical jukebox support), ERM-COLD, Workflow Events, and SCSI scanner support were developed by one team based on a common base architecture. This makes the integration between all modules very reliable, and gives the same user interface to all. No 3rd party component is used for core or critical functionality.

2. How easy is it to scale Saperion to support multiple locations?

Once Saperion is configured for a small group, it can be rapidly scaled to hundreds or even thousands of users with no change to the configuration. These users can be at the same location or spread across the globe. Saperion's distributed multi-tier architecture allows each location to have its own storage server (each with up to 1.5TB Cache), and permits any client station at any location to search and retrieve and file from any location transparently.

3. Which scanners can be used with Saperion?

Saperion is hardware independent and supports a wide range of scanners from all leading vendors including Fujitsu, Kodak, Agfa, Bell & Howell, Ricoh, Panasonic, HP and many others. Connection to the scanner can be done directly using Saperion's built-in SCSI interface, or through the ISIS, TWAIN, VRS or Kofax interfaces.

4. What storage devices does Saperion support?

Magnetic and optical storage are supported directly without the need for 3rd party software. Jukeboxes of all size and from many manufacturers are on the Optical Compatability List.

5. Which Jukebox storage management software does Saperion use?

Saperion INCLUDES a sophisticated Storage Management component that interfaces directly to storage devices (both Magnetic RAID and Optical Jukeboxes). It also includes support for a very large configurable Cache (up tp 1.5TB), media copying and mirroring, and a mirroring server that may be located in a different site and can respond if the active storage server stops working.

6. Can someone get access to the files by accessing the storage device (Jukebox/Raid) directly?

NO. Saperion does not use a simple File-System storage approach, nor does it simply expose the jukebox, or its media, as disk drives! Doing so enables anyone on the network to bypass Saperion's security and read or delete files directly. Access to any stored object can only be done through Saperion.

7. Does Saperion support Encryption and Digital Signatures?

Yes, Digital signatures and several Encryption methods are supported including the 128 bit blowfish algorithm.

8. What databases does Saperion support?

Most popular SQL databases are supported including Oracle, Microsoft SQL-Server, IBM DB2, and many others. For smaller installations, the Saperion internal database may be used.

9. Can Saperion work with multiple database tables?

Yes. Saperion can work with multiple database tables including index and relational look-up tables. This allows building sophisticated solutions that can interact with other applications and their data.

10. Do you have any integration with GroupWare/Email products?

Saperion currently integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Groupwise and Lotus Notes. Saperion is also SAP/R3 and R/4.6 certified.

11. How does Saperion handle disaster recovery?

In case of a worst case scenario where the database was lost and no tape backup exists, and the jukebox was also damaged! Using only the backup optical media, Saperion can rebuild all index and lookup tables and restore all metadata and revisions. It can even do so to a different database from the one used originally.

12. Can we maintain a "Hot Site" for our documents?

Saperion's High End Document Server allows the setup of a "Replication Server" anywhere in the world. This option performs data-mirroring from the active repository in real time. The result is that your organization has an instant backup of all documents maintained by Saperion. This backup is always up-to-date automatically. Further, should the active server or jukebox crash, Saperion will switch to the backup server to continue serving client requests for documents.

13. Can Saperion restore revisions on the files or on the indexing attributes?

Saperion not only restores ALL revisions done on a document, but it can also restore ALL revisions done on the metadata (indexing information) used to store the document.

14. Can we access our files through a web browser?

Yes, Saperion is web-enabled and its web option allows you to search for and access documents using any web browser. Saperion 4.5 introduced the Universal Web Client which allows full functionality through a web browser. This includes scanning, indexing, retrieval, and even administration.

15. Does Saperion support languages other than English?

Yes, Saperion supports several languages including English, French, German, Portuguese, Hungarian, and others. The interface language can be changed at any time without having to restart the program. Different users on the same network can be interacting with Saperion in different languages all at the same time.
