Saperion's architecture is completely independent of the object type that it manages. Therefore, ALL application files may be managed by the Document Management component. This includes Wordprocessing, Spreadsheets, Accounting, Engineering drawings, Multimedia, PDF and others. The file format is not changed when it is stored by Saperion, and you may use either the original application, or a multi-format viewer to view the document once retrieved.

Files can be indexed and stored manually, or Saperion can be configured to automatically import a batch of files, or poll a certain directory to see if any new files are waiting to be indexed.

Automatic indexing of application file contents is possible on many file types including the Microsoft Office suite. This full-text search capability, allows you to search for files using any word that you remember appearing in it.

Check-In/Check-Out is used to control access to files in the repository. When someone checks a file out for editing, it is available to others in read-only mode. When the file is checked back in, a revision is created for integrity and audit trail purposes. There is no limit on the number of revisions that can be created, and any previous revision can be viewed at any time.

Access to documents can be controlled using several security options that can be configured to the unique needs of each organization.
